Fintan’s Reel
An exceptional A minor reel with features that greatly interest the player.
Fintan’s reel is constructed around
a rhythmic phrase that begins on the last semi-quaver of the bar before the
phrase. The result is an engaging riff that drives along the rhythm of the
tune. In the 3rd part, the top C note used (most unusual in an Irish
tune) gives extra tension and drive to the whole piece. It requires banjoists
and fiddlers to move to a higher finger position.
"This
is real class!"
Dermot
Reilly, Newry flute player
"We
are all learning this in our session group" Mick McGuire, banjoist, Co
Meath
NB. this
tune is named after the young son of our bodhran
playing friend Martin McLean.
